Seldinger Technique

The Seldinger Technique is a medical procedure to obtain safe access to blood vessels and other hollow organs. 

 The procedure is completed in a series of six steps:

1. Insert needle into vessel
2. Straighten J-wire, using the adaptor, and insert into needle. Stabilize needle with other hand at all times throughout procedure to prevent needle from dislodging. Advance wire into vessel. 
3. Remove needle and wire cover. Guide wire needs to be securely held during remaining steps to limit further advancement into the vessel.
4. Advance dilator over the wire 1- 1 ½" into insertion point and rotate back & forth. Remove dilator. This opens up the site to facilitate the intro. of the catheter.
   
5. Advance catheter over the guide wire into the vessel
6. Remove guide wire, flush and secure catheter to object with sutures.
